An Application
In MT 26:39, Jesus's prayer wasn't answered so ours would be, or if you prefer, He got "no" so we could get "yes." Jesus didn't want to go through the torture that was about to come, but He was willing. There's a big difference. If there was another way (as so many people today like to say) then I'm pretty sure Jesus would have said "Father, let's save humanity *that* way." / The paradigm clashes are really coming to a head. Peter was a fisherman, not a fighter, but he sliced a man in the head.
Connect the Dots
MT 26:41 was probably referring to MT 26:34-35 not MT 26:40. / In MT 26:51, the identity of the person not named here is named in JN 18:26. And in typical fashion, Jesus didn't leave the man without an ear. He healed him in the parallel account in LK 22:50-51. / MT 26:55 the leaders power came from manipulating popular opinion, and when Jesus ruined their reputation they had no alternative so had to wait and take Him out in secret (see MT 21:26, 46, LK 20:19, 22:6).
